THROWBACK
THURSDAY
Ever seen such words ‘Throwback Thursday’, ‘Throwback’ ‘#TBT’ on Social media every
Thursdays and wonder what they are? Well it’s not Game of thrones or a movie
title but a terminology coined and used for remembering and sharing past events through
social media networks.
Throwback Thursday or simply Throwback is a popular social media theme used weekly by participants
to post anything (photos, videos, quotes or memes) that happened in the past to
social networking sites like Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter.
As the name suggests throwback Thursday happens on
Thursdays and content posted (Usually photos) can be from years ago or just a
few days ago; no limitations per se’.
Users who participate in the trend at Instagram and
Twitter use hash-tag #TBT, #ThrowbackThursday or #Throwback to tag their photos
so as to help expose their tbt’s to
many other users using the same hash-tag.There are no rules for the holiday. Its only a thursday thing.
The term ‘Throwback’ originated from Instagram but
is quickly spreading to other social network sites especially ones that use
Hash-tag functionality like Facebook and Twitter.

Throwback Thursday is important in expressing our
feeling of nostalgia. That’s why it’s growing bigger every Thursday.
Next time you see ‘#TBT’, ‘#Throwback’ or
‘ThrowBackThursday’ on your Facebook or twitter timeline then someone is
nostalgic!
