EXTERNAL LINKAGES

‘Laikipia University and others’,

The statement receives love and hatred at an equal measure from everyone but the truth that lies beneath it.The truth is is the missing link that connects Laikipia University and ‘others’?

How does Laikipia university coordinates student and staff exchange programmes? Do we collaborate with other institutions?

Laikipia University has an external unit that coordinates connection and linkages not from local institutions but also regional and international institutions; The External linkages department.

The department which is under the office of the Vice Chancellor is headed by Dr. B.K. Chacha. It was established in 2011 due to demands and evolving roles of the University to collaborate with other institutions. The department office is located the University main campus

“The key tasks of the office is to promote national and international collaborations and to develop partnerships with public, private and non-government institutions organizations”, said Dr. Chacha during an Interview.

The department of External linkages also has the responsibility of attracting international students, placing University students and Faculty in high ranking Universities, facilitating interaction between Faculty and Industry, as well as exerting a pull for financing of training, research and development activities of the University by national and international donors, alumni, civil society and agro-based industries.

Currently the department has seen Laikipia University enter collaboration with many institutions from across the globe.

The department of external linkages has successfully managed to establish dialogue with UNDP for curriculum in human rights. The human rights course which is currently a common core course in Laikipia University undergraduate programmes   was officially unveiled on December 2013 by the UNDP Kenya.
